Dr. Locklear , DVM | Veterinarian (They/Them)
From a young age, Dr. Locklear always knew that they were interested in non-traditional species (especially the scaly kind). Dr. Locklear focused on zoological medicine in veterinary school, caring for endangered red wolves and injured box turtles. A North Carolina native, Dr. Locklear graduated from NC State University in 2020. This was followed by a year-long rotating internship in large animal medicine at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Locklear then transitioned from caring for thousand-pound horses to 30-gram budgies, completing a zoo companion animal internship at Colorado State University. Dr. Locklear’s diverse background has provided them with a unique perspective on medicine for zoo companion animals. Patient care is one of Dr. Locklear’s key interests, with a focus on providing up-to-date, high-quality medicine for zoo companion species. Although they love working with creatures of all shapes and sizes, Dr. Locklear is especially fond of rabbits and reptiles/amphibians.
Dr. Locklear spends their free time managing a menagerie of rescued animals, including two guinea pigs, a leopard gecko, and a spunky pit bull mix. Dr. Locklear is planning to use their time in private practice to rediscover their passion for hiking and rock climbing, and watching plenty of hockey games.
Dr. Jennifer Garner, DVM | Veterinarian (She/Her)
